An indicative tool, not a legal opinion. The Annex II tables are logarithmic charts; this calculator reconstructs their thresholds from the text of the Directive. Near the boundaries between categories, verify visually against the official chart shown in the result, or consult a notified body / competent technician before making CE marking decisions.
Before you start: exclusions under Article 1.2
This tool assumes the equipment is not excluded from the scope of the Directive. Briefly check whether any of these Article 1.2 exclusions apply before continuing:
  • Pipelines between installations, or water/hydroelectric networks
  • Simple pressure vessels (Directive 2014/29/EU) or aerosol dispensers (75/324/EEC)
  • Equipment intended for approved vehicles, tractors or motorcycles
  • Category I equipment covered by another directive (machinery, lifts, low voltage, medical devices, gas appliances, ATEX atmospheres)
  • Equipment specific to military use, or specifically designed for nuclear use
  • Wellhead control equipment (oil, gas, geothermal)
  • Engines, turbines, compressors, pumps: pressure is not the main design factor
  • Blast furnaces, enclosures for high-voltage electrical equipment or cables
  • Ships, rockets, aircraft and their propulsion equipment
  • Tyres, air cushions, balls, inflatable craft
  • Silencers, carbonated drink cans, beverage containers (PS·V ≤ 500 bar·L and PS ≤ 7 bar)
  • Equipment regulated under transport of dangerous goods (2008/68/EC, 2010/35/EU, IMDG, ICAO)
  • Radiators and pipes for hot-water heating systems
  • Vessels for liquids where the gas pressure above the liquid does not exceed 0.5 bar
